City of Duncan Emergency Management, along with participating community partners, and the US National Weather Service Norman, will have a PRACTICE Community Tornado Drill ***EXERCISE*** on Monday, March 10, 2025, at approximately 12:30 P.M.
For the ***EXERCISE*** drill, the sirens will first sound the rising and falling wail at 12:30 P.M. for THREE MINUTES, to signal a mock tornado warning. Citizens are encouraged to participate in the exercise at home, implementing their severe weather plan and taking tornado precautions by moving indoors, consulting a media source or weather app, and taking shelter. To complete the ***EXERCISE*** the “all clear” siren will sound at approximately 12:50 P.M., which is signaled by a steady pitch siren for THREE minutes. Citizens are encouraged to talk over how their severe weather plan worked and make any adjustments to their plan that will assist in being as safe as possible should a weather-related emergency ever arise.
This practice drill exercise will demonstrate: -the ability of the City of Duncan’s RAVE Alert system to notify the community of a tornado warning, -the ability of the outdoor warning system to notify the community of a tornado warning, -the ability of participating residents, businesses, health care facilities, and schools to shelter in place for a tornado warning.
The ***EXERCISE*** drill will be terminated if an actual emergency occurs between 11:30 A.M. and 12:50 P.M. OR if the weather on March 10th is inclement. If postponed by Emergency Management, all participating community partners will be notified, and the date rescheduled. For up-to-date information, the morning of the ***EXERCISE*** drill, visit www.duncanok.gov or City of Duncan- City Government Facebook page.
The regular Monday test at noon will NOT sound on March 10th, 2025, due to the ***EXERCISE*** drill. During regular Monday testing at noon of the City of Duncan’s siren system throughout the year, the sirens do sound the “all clear” signal first followed by the warning signal, with the test lasting for approximately THREE minutes total.
