Brian Attaway
Chief of Police
Major Attaway, a 25-year resident of the community, began his career in the criminal justice system in 1998 in Lawton. He became a patrol officer at Duncan Police Department in 2000, and took opportunities presented at the department to serve as a Field Training Officer, an Advanced Accident Investigator, a K-9 handler and as a member of the Special Response Team. Promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 2007, he became a Patrol Lieutenant in 2009 and a Patrol Captain in 2011. During his time as Patrol Captain, he contracted the complete remodel of the National Guard Armory that was donated to the City of Duncan and renamed the City of Duncan Criminal Justice Complex. This complex is now the main training site for officers, firefighters, and emergency management for City of Duncan as well as for numerous agencies in the surrounding area. In January 2023 he received a promotion to Major/Assistant Chief of Police where he oversaw daily operations. In his new role as Chief of Police, Attaway will also oversee the operational and capital budgets of the entire department, which includes 51 certified officers, 15 support staff, and 3 animal control officers.
“I am honored to serve in my new role and look forward to continuing to serve the needs of the citizens of Duncan. A leader is only as good as the people who work for them, and I will strive to be a leader that paves a path for others to follow and helps them also become great leaders. We have an excellent group of men and women who serve with the utmost integrity to provide the safety, security, and well-being of all our citizens and, while the community entrusts us with an opportunity to serve and protect its citizens, we will continue to give our best while keeping the highest ethical standards to provide services to our community.”
